If you follow my blog, you already know that I love cows. What a lot of you don't know is how my love for cattle inspired me to be a special education teacher. When I was about 13 years old my dad found a movie that I might be interested in. The movie was about cattle and how a lady with autism actually created a more efficient and much more effective cattle chute that is very popular in the industry today. This amazing women also helped to create a more humane system for slaughtering livestock animals.The lady: Temple Grandin, became a huge inspiration for me. It is super cool to think that someone with Autism (a disability) has been able to do change, and invent so many things. Below you will be able to see the chute system that Temple Grandin created. I grew up being my grandfathers helper. It always seemed that I would end up at the barn with him no matter how many times my mom told me no. Mom always said how dangerous the farm was for a "little four year old girl". Meanwhile both gram and pap would reply back with "what your mom doesn't know wont hurt her". At the age of four, the passion for agriculture began to grow inside me while I would sit on a bucket and watch the feed come down the silo and then onto the auger where the cows would come to eat. It was a few years later that I knew that I loved this farm life, and I wanted to do more. I have been able to participate in the daily farm life, and have been driving tractors since the age of 11. Since then I have gained more and more knowledge and have been able to do more and more on the farm. Fast forward to today, I still love the farm that inspired me to be the person I am. As many of you may know that it is my time to begin my search for my "perfect" cooperating center to complete my student teaching with. Now if I would have been asked last year I would have wanted to be as close to my home town as possible, but now I feel differently about this. It may be because I am living away from home and I have proven to myself that I can survive not seeing my family, my farm, and my cows everyday. Now living in State College is much different than living in my little town of Armagh, as sad as it is in State College I can not see cows from my window, not even my miniature donkeys.. I know BUMMER. I made a huge adjustment living in a city, hearing traffic from my bedroom, and not hearing cows moo. I just made myself at home here in the "big" city and now I am looking for a new place to go to complete the next chapter of my Agriculture Education journey. Who is Britton? How did she get to PSU? If  you asked me three years ago "who is Britton?" I  would have nothing more to say than just a beef cow lover, and then run away back to my high school life.  Growing up on my family's beef cattle farm I knew that I wanted to take a part in the world of agriculture, but what would I be? Freshman year of high school I wanted to be a veterinarian, then I met a math called Algebra and the whole vet idea went down the drain.  Picture this, I was sitting in my seventh period study hall, a lady with blonde hair sporting a pink shirt walked in. This unfamiliar lady looked into the room full of people and asked if anyone wanted to add welding to their schedule. I knew that I needed a agriculture class to be involved in FFA.
